Ice Storm

We had a huge ice storm come through our area on Monday and Tuesday. We ended up losing power around 11:30am on Tuesday and just got our power back last night around 11pm. We have gas logs in our fire place so we were able to stay warm Tuesday night. Chris unfortunately worked from 7am - 7pm from Tuesday to Friday. Luckily, Mimi and Papa had power so when Wednesday morning rolled around and it was apparent that we would be without power for awhile, we went to stay with them. We are so thankful they did not loose power too. Their power went off a time or two for a few hours at a time, but it always came back on. Chris' parents also lost power until Saturday. We are still without cable, internet and phone service, but we are so grateful that we have heat and lights!

By Saturday we were ready to be back home (and I know Mimi and Papa were ready for their guests to leave :) ) so Chris bought a generator and got us fixed up with heat, lights, frig and even the dishwasher. We have a gas cooking stove, so were set. Then all of the 26 houses in our neighborhood, except for 4, got power. Of course we were one of the 4. For some reason our power came from a different line. We were told that it could be another week to a month before our power could be restored because our power line was attached to 10 poles that were down. Then, the power came back on that evening! It was a welcome surprise. I am not really sure what the power company did, but they worked their magic and that is all that matters!

We have a lot of limbs down and we lost two big trees in our front yard. One whole tree fell across our driveway. We were very thankful to not have any damage to our house though. And we did not lose the tree that gives us shade on our deck. We were worried that we would. All in all, it could have been much worse and I will never take electricicty for granted again.

With all those candles it looks kind of romantic...if it weren't for being FREEZING,right?
