Friends

Denise came for a visit last week and we had such a great time! I put together a pretty busy schedule while she was here because I wanted her to see as much as possible during her 3 1/2 day visit. Denise does not like to fly, so it means so much to me that she would jump on a plane to come and see me. A big "thank you" goes out to our hubbies too for taking time off work and watching the kiddos so we could play.

On Wednesday, I picked Denise up at the Savannah airport and we grabbed some lunch before heading back home. We took the golf cart for a spin and I showed her around the neighborhood. It was "Taste of Texas night" at the Magnolia grill (located at the golf club) so we had dinner there.

Our server brought the kids Shirley Temples. Ian downed his fast.

Ali didn't know what to think of hers. She tasted it, but ended up drinking her water instead. It was REALLY sweet.
My running training and my diet took a back seat while Denise was here. It was so worth it though. We really enjoyed our food and took lots of pictures too! Thursday, we drove over to Charleston to eat and shop. The parking is a mess down on King St. where we spent the day. Thankfully, I did not end up having to parallel park my big SUV. We found a spot in a parking lot, but it was $1 an hour and you could only get a ticket for 2 hours at a time. We ended up walking back three times during the day to put change in the machine. Denise set her timer on her phone each time so we would not forget. It's a good thing too, because two hours flies by fast when you are finding some great items in J Crew. :)

This adorable puppy was for sale.
We ate lunch at Caviar & Bananas. It kinda reminded us of the Market that used to be up at Pinnacle Hills. They had so much to choose from and everything looked delicious. We decided on salad and cupcakes!
I had a grilled chicken breast salad and a peanut butter and jelly cupcake. Denise had a lobster salad and a red velvet cupcake. So yummy!
After more shopping and walking we ate dinner at Five Guys before heading back home, the long way. We took a wrong turn and ended up going about 45 minutes out of our way. Oh, well. Denise got to see more of South Carolina. :) This is the best burger and fries!
Friday morning we loaded Ali up in the jogging stroller and took a walk. This is one of the beautiful bridges in Oldfield.
Then we drove around Bluffton a bit and went to the downtown area to look around and eat lunch. We had lunch at The Cottage. It is just down the road from Ali's preschool. They have great food and amazing desserts.
I had the caprese pizza.
Denise had fried green tomatoes with a red shrimp sauce and sweet cornbread.
And, for dessert, we split a piece of the tropical carrot cake. The icing was heaven!
We picked the kids up from school a little early and drove over to Hilton Head. We showed Denise where we usually vacation in Sea Pines, went to the beach, and ate dinner in Harbour Town at the Crazy Crab.

Ali was really hamming it up. She kept wanting to show us "her room" in the big treehouse.

More food pictures! Scallops, shrimp, corn on the cob and baked potato.
Can't forget the best hush puppies!
Saturday morning, Denise and I drove over to Savannah. The next few pictures are of this really neat store called the Paris Market. They just have a lot of neat stuff to look at.

This is an area called City Market. It is close to River St.

One of many parks in Savannah.
I just love how the trees hang over the streets. It is just so beautiful.

When we got to Savannah we stopped by Paula Deen's restaurant, Lady & Sons, to see if they had any reservations left for lunch. We got lucky, they did. We had to wait until 2:30pm, but it was so worth it!
We even got to meet Paula Deen in the flesh. Well, sorta. :)
For starters, they bring you a pancake and cheese biscuit and instruct you to pour maple syrup over them and eat up. It was so good. I could have left after eating it and been perfectly happy. The tea was really pretty too.
I had the crab burger.
Denise had the chicken pot pie.
For dessert, the most amazing pecan pie I have ever eaten. With homemade whipped cream to boot!
By the time we were finished eating, we were so full and tired from going and going for three days straight. Plus, neither one of us wore the best shoes and our feet were killing us! So, we headed home, put our feet up and watched a movie. The kids were with Ma and Pa, Chris was still at work and we had the house to ourselves. Perfect! :)
